Test Equipment

As this is a cable review, which is not dependent on a PC to operate, for this review, we will be carrying out tests using the following equipment:

Displays

  • Panasonic PT-AE500E HD Projector
    • 720p native (1280 x 720) resolution
    • Test using DVI input
  • Targa Visionary LCD 19-3
    • 1280 x 1024 native resolution
    • 19” Diagonal size
    • Test using DVI input

Playback equipment

  • Helios HVD2085 (HDMI Output)
  • NeuNeo HVD2085 (HDMI Output)

Capture methods

  • FujiFilm F30 6.3 Megapixel Super CCD camera

As we have no means of capturing high definition video for this review, even to make screenshots from, we have no other choice but to use a Digital camera to take screenshots from.  Like our other reviews on HD playback equipment, the colour shown in the photographs is not the same as what can be seen to the eye, which means that the photos cannot be judged as to how good the colour reproduction comes out; the same goes with their brightness, sharpness, contrast and so on.  On the other hand, the purpose of these screenshots is to show an example of using the cables and adaptors in this review, particularly where ever issues may arise.  Due to very strong moiré from photos taken of our TFT monitor, unfortunately we are only able to show photos from the projector tests.

Features and techniques

These are the features of these cables & adaptors, found at the Fusion-HDMI website:

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is the first and only industry-supported, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface. HDMI provides an interface between any audio/video source, such as a set-top box, DVD player, or A/V receiver and an audio and/or video monitor, such as a digital television (DTV), over a single cable.

Features

  • Transition to all digital content
  • VHS is being supplanted by DVD with HD-DVD imminent
  • Penetration of DBS is over 20%; digital cable is approaching 40%
  • Digital interfaces provide the highest quality source to display transfer
  • Larger DTV screens with higher resolution
  • Market sweet spot is 35-36 inch TVs & growing
  • Larger screens show off superior HD quality
  • Digital interfaces preserve the original quality at the display
  • Reduce complexity of home theater wiring
  • Basic home theater systems can currently use up to 13 cables
  • Digital interfaces can use a single cable for high quality A/V
