HD-DVD volume unique keys published

One of the nasty things of the new blue laser format is for many consumers their improved copy protection. While many users believe and claim that a format that can be copied will gain popularity it's probably not the itention of the backers of their format to see their protection be circumvented.

The movie studio's who are always very protective over their content play a key factor in the acceptance of a format, if they release popular movies on one format it's more likely that people will purchase players and discs of that format.

Unfortunately for the HD-DVD camp they seem to have a big problem. We already reported that the format was suffering hacker attacks and someone claimed to already have cracked it.

All that was required were unique keys used for the decryption of the content and now people on the Doom9.org forums are posting them openly. The keys can be found by looking in the memory of Intervideo's WinDVD.

With a special tool and these keys it's possible to rip HD-DVD movies and of course that means, these movies will be put up for download on the internet.

Hey HD DVD camp, don't worry too much. I will buy more HD DVD movies if I can back them up.
Well, buying that Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive just became a bit more enticing.
I'm certainly going to buy the format that permits backups, and whichever one is less expensive. If I'm going to spend my very hard-earned $$$ on a movie, fair use means I have the right to have a backup for archival purposes, in case the original becomes damaged or unplayable.
This also applies to Blew Ray as well they use the same copy protection schemes. Blew Ray also has BD+ but it is not implemented and more of a gimmick at this time.

Me too!!!!
Well, the last part about putting HD movies on the net is rubbish. I know or a fact that just about anyone in australia will instantly eat their ISP bandwidth limit for the month by downloading 25GB. No one wants to be shaped to 128 or 64kbits a month. That would blow. So as far as downloading the HD movies goes, that's a load of bollocks, it would take too long as well, even with a super fast connection.

HD and blu ray will be cracked. A "dvd Decrypter" like program will be released. Everything gets cracked eventually. They are all wasting their time with protection.

Everyone has the right to back up their movies, you can't trust the factories to make perfect discs that won't degrade or screw up.
You can't backup HD-DVD discs if all the studios dump the format and it dies.
they must do it differently in Australia, cause here in the UK with cable broadband i can download as much as i want. 1 month i downloaded 500GB of stuff and my isp didn't say a word. there already appears to be HD films on the net, some are recorded from HD satellite broadcasts, but i think proper HD backups are starting to appear. would only take a couple of hours to download here.
In Spain the internet connections are generally without any bandwidth limitation. I usually download 110-150 GB every month and I only have 4 Mbps, but in a few months I'll have 25 Mbps (cable company) but either way I doubt I'll do much more bandwith a month since I have to put all that data somewhere and, as you already know, DVD+/-R and hard drives cost money ;)
Well they are already being shared. However an x264 reencode can look and sound pretty good. So a DVD9 sized reencode is the sweet spot for 1080P short movies and 720P for longer movies.
