Remote Control

Markus 800 Media Player Remote controlAdvocate86: The remote control is a bit of a letdown both aesthetically and in build quality. It has a cheap feel to it and lacks any form of backlit buttons or glow in the dark. This renders the remote useless in darkened rooms and is something that I believe should be made compulsory by law! Who wants to get up and switch on the lights to rewind, or pause a movie?

Then again we could always purchase a remote controlled lighting unit, but bets on that this would come with the same problem as well. :) The remote buttons are laid out ok and I suppose after a while you could get used to where the right button is placed but these days I tend to be troubled with short term memory failure - must be a sign of old age.

Hi-Jack: Excuse me? :) The remote is rubbish. I agree as far as the cheap looks and feels go but the remote is designed in such way as if it needed all the space around each button to fill the size of the remote. That and the placement of all options in a mix with the numeric buttons are simply bad. The fact it misses backlit or any form of fluorescent tones makes it even worse. You‟ll need a year to remember all these buttons even though they not do all that much.

The only thing I like about the remote though is the excellent reception and that is mostly due to the player‟s IR receiver itself. Hail to universal remotes as you‟ll need one :)

As with all remote controls, if operational buttons like stop, return, play/pause, slow playback and others are placed above the arrow pads, they work less convenient as usually you hold the remotes from the bottom up.

This was it. Let's take a look at the conclusion now...

CONS: Player rejects latest firmware (v 118) from Hantec, fast forwards through mkv files horribly (frequently stopped 30 minutes before or after the scene I would be fast forwarding through), drops the sound for high definition mpeg2 files.

PRO: Does a fantastic job recognizing files on USB devices, plays standard video beautifully but I didn't purchase the device to play standard video.

As is, I cannot recommend this device for anyone looking for a device that plays HD files.
I now own a Markus 800 and experience the same problems during playback of files.
Does not play sound during HD MWV, stops frquently during playback of any file.
Also had a problem updating the firmware had to return the unit to Hantech, service was excellent. However questions about the playback of certain files are just neglected and not answerd!
Would not recommend this problem at all!
