Conclusion:
Let us summarize the most important positive and negative points below:
The LG GBC-H20L’s ability to quickly read Blu-ray discs and quietly play Blu-ray movies make this drive a welcome addition for any desktop PC or Home Theater PC (HTPC).
Writing of DVD-R and DVD+R media at 16x with good to excellent quality along with CD-R/RW media, 40x and 24x respectively with good to excellent quality give this drive added value as you can use it for more than just a Blu-ray player.
The drive supports an SATA interface for quick and easy installation (SATA cable included in the box) and with a software bundle from Cyberlink for Blu-ray Disc viewing. With the ability to play Blu-ray discs as well as DVD and CD burning and authoring, this makes the LG GBC-H20L a complete solution.
We have only found a few negatives with this drive, Audio Extraction and the reading of Pressed and copied CD media was very slow compared to the competition. Bitsetting selection is still not being saved after rebooting.
To sum it all up, this is what we would say: “The LG GBC-H20L is a fast Blu-ray reader with quiet operation for watching high-definition content on your PC or Home Theater PC, additionally its good to excellent write quality on CD-R and DVD media make this drive a welcome addition to any system.”
We found the OEM version of LG GBC-H20L is listed at cheapest price of $120.02 at NCIXUS (September 2008).
