DVD+R Double Layer writing speed and quality:
The LG GBW-H10N supports the DVD+R DL standard for writing Double Layer discs with a size around 8.5 GB at a writing speed of 8x.
Testing procedure:
We created an ISO Image from a pre-authored DVD-Video compliant file set, with a total on-disc size of nearly 8.5GB. We then wrote this image file using Nero Burning ROM 7. Below are the results:
The scan is excellent and transfer rate curves are smooth.
The drive overspeed this Verbatim 2.4x media at 4x with very good result.
The scans show elevated PIE and very high PIF levels. Our Plextor PX-712A failed to complete the transfer test; however BenQ DW1655 completed it without problem.
DVD-R Dual Layer writing speed and quality:
The LG GBW-H10N supports the DVD-R DL standard for writing Dual Layer discs with a size around 8.5 GB at a writing speed of 8x.
Testing procedure: We created an ISO Image from a pre-authored DVD-Video compliant file set, with a total on-disc size of nearly 8.5GB. We then wrote this image file using Nero CD-DVD Speed. Below are the results:
The result is good. Read back test showed no problem.
High PIE levels but acceptable. There are also some PIF spikes but read back test is smooth.
Standalone DVD-Player compatibility:
From the above Dual/Double layer burns, we tested them in our standalone players. We have 2 standalone DVD-Players available to test the DVD+R DL media (Book Type: DVD-ROM) and the DVD-R DL media (Book Type: DVD-R):
- Pioneer DV-656A
- Koss DVP2161
Compatibility results:
All brand of DVD+R/-R DL play nicely in the Pioneer DVD-656A standalone player. However, the Koss DVP2161 was having trouble playing back some of our media. We would like to mention, that the compatibility issue with standalone DVD Players and the DVD-R DL media format is also caused by incompatibilities with the standalone devices used in this review, as we know the DVD-R DL format has inferior compatibility compared to DVD+R DL especially with older standalone player.
Summary: The LG GBW-H10N burns our Verbatim DVD+R/-R DL with good to very good result.
