CD-RW tests.
The drive should be able to write CD-RW discs at 10X according to the specifications. We'll do a normal test with Nero burning ROM first, We used an 80 minutes Mr.Platinum High Speed CD-RW disc for this test. Here is the manufacturer information:
- ATIP: 97m 26s 11f
- Disc Manufacturer: Postech Corp.
- Reflective layer: Phase change
- Media type: CD-ReWritable
- Recording Speeds: min. 4X - max. 8X
- Nominal Capacity: 702.83MB (79m 59s 74f / LBA: 359849)
Packet writing tests.
For this test we used Ahead InCD 3.28.0. The format process took about 14minutes and 30 seconds to complete. After the formatting process we got 572Mb free space on the disc. Now we copied a 479Mb file to the disc, this operation took about 7 minutes. We calculated the speed to be close to 7,6X. This is about the same speed as we got with the LTR-24102B at the exactly same operation. The speed is normal for a 10X CD-RW drive.
Buffer underrun protection test.
For this test we used Nero Drive speed to limit the reading speed of our Toshiba SD-M1502 to 5X and then we used CloneCD to copy on the Fly at 24X to the LXR-24101A. The buffer stayed at 0-2% while the buffer underrun technology kicking in the whole time, the whole process took nearly 20 minutes, the buffer underrun technology worked as it should and the created disc was perfectly readable.
Let us now continue to media compatibility…

The pics were really a pain in the ass to get them right in the backend system
Great review though.
Great review though.

In order to backup Cactus Data Shield Audio CD's. I've found it helps to insert the CD with autorun enabled and allow it to start the built-in player. Stop the player, load CloneCD and copy the CD (make sure you don't have any fast error skip stuff enabled). This (for me at least) results in a copy of the CD which completely works 100% (and in fact can be backed up or ripped perfectly).
