Phew, finally all the reading tests are done and we could conclude that it's very fast at reading single layer DVD-discs. For the other disc types it's a good performer although it won't win a price for being the fastest drive.
Writing Data CD-R discs:
For our data writing tests we simply set up a new compilation of 700Mb using Nero Burning ROM software. Writing method used is DAO (Disc At Once), and the disc is set up as a non-multisession disc with finalize disc enabled. The screenshot below shows how long time it takes to write a disc at the highest speed that is 48X:
The drive used 2 minutes and 49 seconds to write the disc, this is right where it should be for a 48X writer although it's not the fastest 48X writer out there (Lite-On LTR-48125W used 2 minutes and 38 seconds and Plextor PX-W4824TA used 2 minutes and 49 seconds). But speed is only good if the write quality could keep up, so let us take a look at the write quality of this drive.
Write Quality:
We will test CD-R discs from 6 different large CD-R manufacturers. All discs have the same content and are written at 48X. For the quality test we use K-Probe that is a tool developed by a Lite-On Employee, it runs under windows and works with drives made by Lite-On. Also note that different drives and different reading speeds may affect the results obtained when scanning the discs. We used the Lite-On LTC-48161H drive and scanned the discs at maximum speed that is 48X. A written CD-R disc will always have some C1 errors, C1 errors is easily corrected by the drives error correction capabilities. The next level of errors is C2, while C2 errors could also be corrected by most drives error correction capabilities; a good disc should not contain any C2 errors. After this there is only un-correctable errors that will make a disc unusable.
Notice that the Lite-On LTC-48161H reports lower average error rates than other Lite-On CD-Writers.
Why wait any longer? Below are the obtained results:

Brand: Packard Bell
Manufacturer: CMC Magnetics
Code: 97m26s66f
Disc Type: CD-R
Recording Layer: Dye Type 6, Short strategy (Phthalocyanine).
Capacity: 79:59.71 (703Mb)
Certified speed: 48X
Write speed: 48X
Write time: 2m:47s
C1 average: 0.650
C2 average: 0.0
These discs seems to work pretty well with this drive, an average C1 error count of 0.650 is very good.

Brand: MMORE
Manufacturer: Moser Baer India
Code: 97m17s06f
Disc Type: CD-R
Recording Layer: Dye Type 6, Short strategy (Phthalocyanine).
Capacity: 79:59.74 (703Mb)
Certified speed: 52X
Write speed: 48X
Write time: 2m:45s
C1 average: 0.463
C2 average: 0.0
Nothing bad with an average C1 error count of 0.463. These discs should not cause any problems for you.

C1 average: 0.114
C2 average: 0.0
These discs do also work well with the Lite-On, a C1 average error count of 0.114 is very good. Beside this these discs offered the lowest write time of the tested discs.

Brand: Fujifilm

Code: 97m15s17f
Disc Type: CD-R
Recording Layer: Dye Type 7, Short strategy (Phthalocyanine).
Capacity: 79:59.70 (703Mb)
Certified speed: 48X
Write speed: 48X
Write time: 2m:46s
C1 average: 0.465
C2 average: 0.0
With an average of 0.465 C1 errors these discs should not cause any problems either.

Brand: Plextor
Manufacturer: Taiyo Yuden
Code: 97m24s01f

Recording Layer: Dye Type 1, Long strategy (Cyanine or AZO).
Capacity: 79:59.72 (703Mb)
Certified speed: 48X
Write speed: 48X
Write time: 2m: 49s
C1 average: 0.038
C2 average: 0.0
These discs work extremely well with the Lite-On LTC-48161H, a C1 average error count of 0.038 is among the best result we have obtained with this drive and it's a fantastic low error count.

Brand: Memorex
Manufacturer: Prodisc
Code: 97m32s19f
Disc Type: CD-R
Recording Layer: Dye Type 9, Short strategy (Phthalocyanine).
Capacity: 79:59.72 (703Mb)
Certified speed: 48X
Write speed: 48X
Write time: 4m:6s
C1 average: 0.544
C2 average: 0.0
Notice that the drive had some problems with this disc type as it used longer time for writing the disc (it used about a minute to calibrate before it actually started to write). But the produced result is good with an average C1 error count of only 0.544.
This concludes our writing tests so head on to next page and read about the packet writing performance of this drive…

Very good the Advanced tests page is superb with all the copyprotections, even the
less used protections like Té¢ges,CD Cops
and the new SD2.9 !!!!!
Only missing is SF3 - I know it is hard to find a progam with this protections ;-)

Autoplay: DISABLED!!!
Enhance Weak sectors: DISABLED!!!
Backup works perfect, even in picky readers as the Toshiba SD-M1502.

Fantastic review BTW. One of the best I've seen.

Tried blindwrite 4.5.7 today.
The sims: superstar - backup works in most drives (Lite-On LTD-165H and some others) but not in my default and picky test unit: Toshiba SD-M1502.
A perfect backup should work in the toshiba![]()
GTA: Vice city do still not work at all.
