DVD R/RW Writing performance

DVD-R media compatibility and write quality:

In these tests we will be using a Lite-On SHW-1635S drive with firmware YS0N along with K-Probe to measure the disc quality. We will also be using the NEC ND-3540A with firmware 1.03 along with CD-Speed for our read-back tests.

The Lite-On SHW-16H5S has handled the Traxdata DVD-RW media well. A very good result.

To sum it up: Overall, the write quality is good on DVD-R and DVD-RW media, but some improvements would be nice with DVD-R.

Head on to next page and read about DVD+R DL compatibility and write quality...

Good to know Lite-On is back to their winning ways.
Ugh. I still can't find one in the US. Any ideas when they're coming this way? I'd really like to get one!
newegg has them, got mine in nov/dec for $35 from them
I purchased the above product in December 2006.

I have used it only once or twice as it was causing seizure of the computer after the cd had been burnt. I only recently was able to burn CDs without problems when the Nero 6.5 software bundled with the product
that was conflicting with the Roxio software bundled with XP Wizard was removed.

I now find that it will only recognize CDs and will/can-not burn DVDs.

Has any one experienced this problem? Any solution?
@Kawahn: It's probably a driver issue I guess, or it's most likely not the correct drive..

Does anyone knows how the Verbatim -R's do on this drive?
