Packet Writing:

For our packet writing tests we used Nero InCD version 4.3.14.1. The InCD option to format the disc to CD-MRW (Mt. Rainier) was disabled as we will carry out the Mt. Rainier tests later.

For the tests we used a High Speed 24x rated CD-RW media to keep in line with previous Packet Writing tests here on CD Freaks.

As we can see from the results, all the drives performed pretty much the same.

This time we used an Ultra Speed 32x CD-RW media. As the Lite-On SOHR-5238S uses Z-CLV (Zone Constant Linear Velocity) for writing CD-RW media, the speed improvement in writing our test file of 400 Megabytes showed little improvement in speed over the 24x media. Were it did score better was in the format tests.

Mount Rainier:

In this test we will check out the Lite-On SOHR-5238S Mount Rainier performance. Once again we used Nero InCD to write the same test data we used in the Packet Writing test.

In the table below we can see the results.

In the table below we can see the same test as before. This time we used an Ultra Speed 32x CD-RW media. As in the packet tests we can notice that using a 32x did not speed up the write performance by much, this can be put down to the fact that we did not write a full disc; but as before, the format performance was a good deal better with the 32x media

In the Packet writing and Mt. Rainier tests the Lite-On SOHR-5238S performed well.
