Conclusion:

Let us summarize the most important positive and negative points below:

The main positive points: This drive is a very good audio ripper. It has good support for 16x media. It supports 8x DVD+RW and 6x DVD-RW media with excellent writing quality. The drive supports writing DVD+R9 media at 4x and produces good to excellent writing quality. Shows good 8x DVD+/-R write quality.

The main negative points: The drive needs improvement on 16x DVD±R write quality. A very disappointing CD writer that produces C2 errors on many discs we wrote. It is a slow reader on re-writable and double layer media.

To sum it all up, this is what we would say: 'Overall this drive is an improvement over earlier Lite-On based drives. It shows marked improvement in DVD-R/RW writing quality. However it still disappoints for 16x writing quality and the broken CD writing. We wouldn't recommend this as an all in one drive."

By using our price grabber feature cdfreaks.pricegrabber.com the drive is listed at $86.99 (May, 11 2005).

i wonder which drive this would be able to crossflash to? 1673s/93s?
It will crossflash to 1693S, now it supports DVD-R9 DL!:B
I cannot back-up data to an external cd using my cd-rom reader. I get message on my screen saying "Back-up not ready". Staples where I bought the pc said my rom may not be connected. What connections are required to back up info on a cd.
