Positive:

  • Supports DVD-RAM read and write 5x
  • Supports DVD±R at 16x
  • Supports DVD±R DL writing at 8x/8x
  • Supports DVD+RW/DVD-RW writing at 8x/6x
  • Supports CD-R/RW writing at 48x/32x
  • Supports Bitsetting on DVD+R DL media (sets auto. BookType to DVD-ROM)
  • Reads DVD-Video SL/DL at 16x/12x
  • Very good reading performance
  • Very good write quality on our tested media
  • New 8x writing method on DVD±R speeds up the burning process.

Negative:

  • Does not support Mt. Rainier.
  • Reads CD-DA/CD-RW only at 40x.
  • Does not support Bitsetting on DVD+R/+RW.
  • Green LED for both reading and writing.
  • Some CD-R media rated at 48x/52x only writes at 32x/40x.

Conclusion:

To sum it all up, this is what we would say: Although the NEC ND-4570A is a very new drive and no firmware updates are yet available, this drive performs extremely well. Reading performance is excellent and writing performance on the tested media was very good.

We should however wait for a full CD Freaks review of the retail drive before coming to any premature conclusions.

By using our price grabber feature cdfreaks.pricegrabber we could not find a price listing for the drive.

I am shocked that also the 4570 does a very bad burn with VERBATIM 16x DVD-Media!

Disk-Quality score with MCC 004 at 84%
and wit MCC 003 at 70% is somenthing NOT acceptable for me!
This "new" 8x writing method was already introduced with Plextor 708 more than 3 years ago!
I wish I'd read the comments above before buying this buner.
Best quality Verbatim discs show lots of errors and jitter on this drive causing Nero Speed 4.7 to give a Disc Quality score of ZERO.
Same discs have a score of 94 and no jitter errors when burned on my ND 3520A.

AVOID THIS BURNER!!! :(
I find this drive very good for my purposes, its incredibly fast for writing CDs for University work I am always expecting a slow write speed, I sometimes even get the feeling that the CD hasnt burnt properly and have to check it but its fine.

I THINK THIS DVD-RW, CD-RW etc is very good! :B
I did terrible things to my 4570A, but it still works fine... :)
