Data Creation:
CD:
Now let's create a DATA CD
A compilation of files containing 655 megabytes of DATA was drag and dropped into the main compilation window and burned to a CDR media:

Once the application had completed its file checks on the files to be burned, we were ready to burn our test CD. A blank Verbatim 52X CDR at this point was loaded into the drive.
Clicking on the 'burn icon" set the burn in progress.

3 minutes 4 seconds later the burn had completed successfully as can be seen from the log file below.

The resulting disc was checked for errors and passed with flying colours.
DVD:
This time we will check out the DVD DATA creating powers of NeroLINUX. For this test 4438 megabytes of DATA was drag and dropped into the compilation window.

A YUDEN000T02 blank +R media was loaded into the drive. This media is supported at 16X with this drive, so 16X burn speed was selected as we felt this would push both LINUX and NeroLINUX hard. The burn icon was then clicked to start of the burn process.

As we can see from the log file below, the burn once again completed successfully in a very commendable 6 minutes and 16 seconds. This included the customary file system check before the burn process actually started.

This concludes the DATA disc creation tests. NeroLINUX performed these tasks with complete ease. Even the 16X DVD write was as smooth as silk and never once looked like causing a problem.

- Taste is personnal, but still. 95% of the comments I've read about NeroLinux didn't find the interface elegant
A recent version of GTK or Qt would be a serious improvement.
- What's so positive about the fact that NeroLinux is free if you have the Windows-version? If I want to use it, I'll have to buy an expensive Windows-version with far more features. A version I will never use. So that maks NeroLinux really expensive!
- Solid application?! Under Windows, not crashing would be a positive point
(That's a joke before some starts flaming)
Apart from that, good review. Glad to see there is some interest in Linux-burning. Will you make a K3B-review too?

As for free ... as a registered Nero 6 customer, Ahead never offered me a free copy, but happily accepted my money for a serial number.
And yes, it does need more work. The venerable K3B has more going for it than NeroLinux.
