Menu
The 'Copy CD' menu is the same as the 'Read to ImageFile' and the 'Write from ImageFile' windows except of course now
both windows are used. After selecting the desired reader we get the same options when reading to an image file:

After selecting the desired Profile to be copied you can select how you want to copy the CD:

And then you can of course select the desired device for writing the image. After pressing the 'Next' button you can select the desired Profile again:

And that's it. After pressing the 'OK' button the disc will be copied:

Great work G@M3FR3@K! I think this new CloneCD will definately attract more users because of it's easier usage...

Look great! Can't wait. Simple is better as far as I am concerned! If it works without having to delve into all the advanced settings, then for most people, tha'ts just the ticket. Nice one Sir Oliver!

Well, it still looks like the same ole' CloneCD...
I don't see how a new installation-procedure will benefit the user at all!
In fact, this "new" version doesn't seem to have so much more to offer that the old version doesn't already have!
It's nice though that he's trying to make it more user-friendly for the newbies!
The only thing I care about in CloneCD is the copy-protection stuff (duh, that's what the proggy is for) but I guess we'll have to wait for the full version to see if there are any changes...
If there isn't, I don't really see any point in upgrading...
This seems more like a version made for the beginners, us hardcore peeps can stick with the old version, he he! :7

What about TAGES .. did you try it on that ?
Otherwise .. it looks nice, but not much news for the hardcore CloneCD users !

Personally I think this is the best move ever in terms of the future of clonecd...

Posted by RickDangerous on Friday 15 March 2002 16:10
Er... this is no big deal guys... I certainly wouldn't call it "the best move ever in terms of the future of clonecd"!! I mean the only actual new feature is setting the quality of DAE extraction (and even that may not be new, I've not used Clone for a while)... everything else is just cosmetic and Clone has been due a cosmetic update for some time. The preview is pretty pointless without testing the actual copying capability.

Posted by DoMiN8ToR on Friday 15 March 2002 16:39
I'm not sure if it's the best move ever, cause we will have see that in the future, but it makes it easier for people to make working backups of their games, this means it's better for marketing and attract customers that would else leave the software alone, because for them the software was to hard to understand.
There is also a new feature in this CloneCD that is really intresting. When you read for e.g a SafeDisc protected CD, CloneCD will find the first weak sectors, then slow down and check again, after several reads it will know if the sector is really weak and start to check the next one, if it finds several weak sectors it will guess the CD is protected and skip a lot of them. BUT !!! This would normally mean it would also skip good sectors, and thats the trick, this new version will automagically notice that the weak sector part is finished and start read normally again. This could make for some protections and readers the reading process a lot faster...
And that's intresting...

Can't wait for the technical review, the testing of overcoming the latest copy protections.
But this is one step forward in its development, making it available to the average consumer. This will put CloneCD right on the map with Easy CD Creator and Nero as far as the average consumer is concerned (the expert users already knew this program to be tops).

And in line with CD-Mate
That was a thing that CD-Mate did before CloneCD: make the copy process easier.
Well, Uhm technical review? We will wait for the official version with that

Don't forget this is just an interim update until CloneCD 4 is released, CCD 4 is where all the major changes is supposed to happen. Ollie talked about this for a long time now, that there was going to be another update before Version 4, I wouldn't expect too many changes.... yet.

Looks GREAT and the new features look very promising (especially the new audio extraction feature being implemented!)
Fantastic job Olli, love the new graphics

How does this new DAE feature compare to using the prior version of CloneCD to copy audio CDs?
To date I have always used CloneCD to "clone" or copy audio CDs. So why DAE?
Again my thanks to Ollie!

CDRInfo says they have the first look at version 4.0 of CloneCD
"A) The world's first preview of CloneCD v4.x (actual version 3.5.3.4)"
It looks the same as the 3.5 CD Freaks looked at. Are they calling it 4.0 just to hype it up or what?

Yup
There is currently no official name for the CloneCD version. To us it was introduced as CloneCD X, I have also seen it distributed on CD as CloneCD 4. They are all the same, but as you know Ian, someone always wants to be world exclusive

This (p)review was done with CloneCD version 3.5.1.5 (first beta) up to version 3.5.3.4 (latest beta including custom language dependant install procedure)
Ian I can therefore say that CDRInfo does not have CloneCD 4 if they are using 3.5.3.4 and they're hyping things up. Btw I don't see their review on their site?
Regards,
GF

What CDR Info calles version 4, is the exact same version as was reviewed here, considering ther version number displayed at their 'review' (which is not even half the size of our review).
It could very well be that this will become version 4, but then again, it is also possible that the real version 4 has yet to be developed. By calling it version 4 they are trying to claim a scoop, while in fact it isn't (well, not for them, it was for us, they posted tthis at March 16, while our review was posted on March 15, 1 day before CDR Info...
)

I think this update could be summed with one word -- Facelift. There are very few and minor updates to this version; however, I would bet the coding and program model has been altered to set them up for their future plans. GLA

And this new version uses WAY less CPU resources!!!!!

Olli probably want to fine tune it a bit more, there is some tiny bugs that could be squezed out.

i wonder if the register process is still easy to do and put a serial or keygen u dl and put that in without payying i know everyone is happy wit clonecd because 99% of u dont pay for it! :9

By far the best GUI and options! ELBY makes this version great for newbies and for advanced users. Can't wait to donwload it!!! :4

I just did a double-take on G@M3FR3@K's review and the postings. Either I'm missing something somewhere
or it's not posted - but when should the final version be available???

This seems good but why does it not like my Mitsumi 4804TE which in all prev vers was possibly the best writer to use with CCD IT fails to recognise it at all

I have 4.0 version, it seem to copy O.K., loaded good [2 disk game] but the game won't play with the copied cd, it will if I use original cd. help anyone?

I didn't care for the newest version of CloneCD
... until I installed Perfect Copy SRIII.
After installation I immediately went to a disk that I hadn't been able to successfully after 5 or 6 attempts. Needless to say, the copy turned out PERFECT!!:G Now, I am a MOST satisfied CloneCD user, again!!!:4
