First of all let's start with some things to keep in mind: the version we received from Elaborate Bytes is a beta
version and still needs retouching! The final version may be different from ours. In this (p)review we didn't test how
CloneCD handles various copy-protections like SafeDisc 2, etc. because there's no point in testing something that hasn't
been finished yet.
Installation:
Well as you might have noticed during the (p)review CloneCD has undergone some major changes. The first big difference is the way CloneCD installs. It's very fast and very simple. The installation procedure will now even be done in your own language, of course depending on whether or not CloneCD has been translated into your language or not.
Usage:
CloneCD has undergone some major changes in the way it is used. The focus is now on Profiles and people/users don't have to figure out the proper settings for each disc. A major advantage for less experienced users of course. The Profile-focus may be a little odd for experienced users but luckily you can still access the advanced settings. With the new CloneCD version it's possible to create your own Profile for each type of disc or even for each title. The Profiles are very easy to use and users with no experience at all should be able to operate CloneCD with ease. The user interface has remained the same in this CloneCD version and the four main buttons are very easy to use.
Copy-Protection Scanners:
With the new focus on Profiles there won't be much need for copy-protection scanners like ClonyXXL. Oliver Kastl let us know that the old command line options can't be supported anymore in this new CloneCD version but two new command line options for protection scanners have been implemented. But like said, the need for these scanners is now questionable...
Graphics:
We liked the new 'sheep' look and the orange icons but that is of course entirely a personal opinion. If you don't like the look you can of course just install a new skin and use that one instead. It's too bad we couldn't show you the animated pictures this new CloneCD version uses when a disc is examined for example or when a write is in progress. They simply look cool!
CloneCD Tray:
The CloneCD Tray hasn't been discussed further during this (p)review but it's still present in this new CloneCD version. It hasn't changed.
Conclusions:
We liked the new 'look and feel' of CloneCD X. We think that past questions like 'Which settings do I use with disc XXX?' and 'Which error correction method do I have to use?' have all been solved in this new version. CloneCD has never been easier to use! But that's our personal opinion.
Please post your feelings/questions/other remarks below! What do you think about the focus on Profiles for example?

Our thanks goes to Sven Rohde and Oliver Kastl from Elaborate Bytes for sending us this preview version and providing feedback! Please don't e-mail me if I can send you this new CloneCD version because I won't.

I don't see how a new installation-procedure will benefit the user at all!
In fact, this "new" version doesn't seem to have so much more to offer that the old version doesn't already have!
It's nice though that he's trying to make it more user-friendly for the newbies!
The only thing I care about in CloneCD is the copy-protection stuff (duh, that's what the proggy is for) but I guess we'll have to wait for the full version to see if there are any changes...
If there isn't, I don't really see any point in upgrading...
This seems more like a version made for the beginners, us hardcore peeps can stick with the old version, he he! :7

Otherwise .. it looks nice, but not much news for the hardcore CloneCD users !

Clone cd is a high quality program deep respect for oli and his team who delevoped it.

But so far CD-Cops and Tagès is still a no-go......

There is also a new feature in this CloneCD that is really intresting. When you read for e.g a SafeDisc protected CD, CloneCD will find the first weak sectors, then slow down and check again, after several reads it will know if the sector is really weak and start to check the next one, if it finds several weak sectors it will guess the CD is protected and skip a lot of them. BUT !!! This would normally mean it would also skip good sectors, and thats the trick, this new version will automagically notice that the weak sector part is finished and start read normally again. This could make for some protections and readers the reading process a lot faster...
And that's intresting...

Can't wait till this new version can be downloaded as a trial! :9

But this is one step forward in its development, making it available to the average consumer. This will put CloneCD right on the map with Easy CD Creator and Nero as far as the average consumer is concerned (the expert users already knew this program to be tops).

That was a thing that CD-Mate did before CloneCD: make the copy process easier.
Well, Uhm technical review? We will wait for the official version with that

well done.

Fantastic job Olli, love the new graphics

When the oficila version comes out review its copying abilities!!!
ps-> how i determine the best error corrections settings for my yamaha 2200e(20/10/40)?!?:0

To date I have always used CloneCD to "clone" or copy audio CDs. So why DAE?
Again my thanks to Ollie!

"A) The world's first preview of CloneCD v4.x (actual version 3.5.3.4)"
It looks the same as the 3.5 CD Freaks looked at. Are they calling it 4.0 just to hype it up or what?

There is currently no official name for the CloneCD version. To us it was introduced as CloneCD X, I have also seen it distributed on CD as CloneCD 4. They are all the same, but as you know Ian, someone always wants to be world exclusive

Ian I can therefore say that CDRInfo does not have CloneCD 4 if they are using 3.5.3.4 and they're hyping things up. Btw I don't see their review on their site?
Regards,
GF

It could very well be that this will become version 4, but then again, it is also possible that the real version 4 has yet to be developed. By calling it version 4 they are trying to claim a scoop, while in fact it isn't (well, not for them, it was for us, they posted tthis at March 16, while our review was posted on March 15, 1 day before CDR Info...

... until I installed Perfect Copy SRIII.
After installation I immediately went to a disk that I hadn't been able to successfully after 5 or 6 attempts. Needless to say, the copy turned out PERFECT!!:G Now, I am a MOST satisfied CloneCD user, again!!!:4
