The result with these Memorex DVD-R discs manufactured by CMC Magnetics is very good, but notice that the quality of CMC Magnetics manufactured discs varies from brand to brand and batch to batch, so discs from other batches may not work as good as this.

We did try some different Princo discs and got many different results, some better and some much worse than the example shown here. But overall the Pioneer seemed to dislike Princo discs as other writers like the NEC ND-2500A have few problems with the same discs. Princo varies much in quality and is not a brand that we would recommend.

Brand:

The Pioneer DVR-107D seems to have problems with these Optodisc DVD-R discs and you should avoid this disc type.

After seeing the K-Probe scan we did not expect the disc to be readable, but surprisingly it was. But still this is not a disc type that we will recommend.

Lead data is not known for being the best disc manufacturer, so the obtained result is about what we expected. But the result is still worse than with some other writers like the NEC ND-2500A.

The drive did surprisingly well with these low quality discs, and in practical use these discs should not cause any problems.

Another very low quality disc type. The Pioneer is one of the few writers that have been able to create a readable disc at 4x speed. But we will for sure never recommend these discs to anyone.

While the result is not bad, it's far from as good as we hoped. Most other writers are able to write these discs with better quality.

Again we present a table with various media to see if all media types are supported at certified speed.

*This is a very problematic Princo disc type that few writers are able to recognize and write successfully.

As we could see the media support is very good and only one disc were not detected.

Overall thoughts:

All in all quite good writing quality, but there was some disc types that the Pioneer DVR-107D had problems with. And the overall write quality is not as good as with our previous reviewed NEC ND-2500A writer. Another negative point is that no 4x discs works at 8x and that not even all 8x discs works at 8x.

This concludes our DVD-writing tests, so head on to next page and read about the RW and packet writing performance of this drive…
