DVD+R DL/ R DL Writing performance

DVD+R/-R Double Layer writing performance and quality:

The Pioneer DVR-112D supports the DVD+R DL/-R DL standard for writing Double Layer/Dual Layer discs with a size around 8.5 GB at a writing speed of 10x.

For these tests we pre-authored several video clips into an image file and burned the resulting image in Nero Burning Rom. We then used the Lite-On LH-20A1P along with KProbe to test the discs quality; we then finally ran a read-back test on our Optiarc AD-7173A using Nero CD-Speed.

The Pioneer DVR-112D burned our 8x rated Verbatim media in 15 minutes and 16 seconds. Quality could be better, there is a large cluster of errors at the layer break and reading problems on the first layer of the disc

The Pioneer DVR-112D burned our Verbatim 8x media in 15 minutes and 21 seconds, with very good writing quality. The media was also burned faster than its rated speed.

Summary:

The Pioneer DVR-112D burned our test DVD+DL faster than its rated speed, but there were some problems with the quality. DVD-R DL quality was very good and the Pioneer DVR-112D wrote the disc at faster than its rated speed.

DVR-112D, firmware 1.24

Replaced my first one for a second and this second one seems to have problems with audio extraction, some glitches which a generic DVD-reader doesn't produce...

anyone else problems with this ?
Any digital out available on this drive ? I think it's not the case according to the main PCB picture. They do have a serial remote control instead but have not found any documentation yet.

Got this one on my Mac drive.
Does any one know where I can find the firmware to dezone it, (that is to turn it to RP-1 stage) ?
