Conclusion

Nero Burning ROM icon People who own a CD- or DVD-recorder will probably have heard of Nero Burning ROM and the company behind this software, Ahead Software . Ahead was founded in 1995 and is a privately held company currently headquartered in Karlsbad, Germany. Today, Ahead Software is one of the industry's leading developers of software applications and many OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) are including Ahead's software with their recordable CD and/or DVD drives.

InCD icon Ahead's flagship product is of course their Nero Burning ROM software. With Nero you can quickly create any type of CD or DVD disc you want and Nero now also comes with Nero Express, aimed at the most novice user. Other software products by Ahead are their packet writing software InCD with which you can turn your CD-RW or DVD±RW discs into small hard disks, meaning that you can quickly add or delete files from a disc, just as you would with a normal hard disk.

NeroVision Express icon Other software by Ahead are for example NeroVision Express, a video-authoring application that not only supports DVD but also the VCD and SVCD formats, and NeroMix (Play&Burn), a multimedia CD creation tool that combines elements of CD burning with Internet audio. And that's not all.. Ahead offers even more software packages such as Feurio! (audio CD recording tool), EasyWrite Reader, Nero Media Player, NeroBurnRights, etc.

Nero Media Player icon As said, Ahead's flagship product is Nero Burning ROM which is currently available as version 5.5. Recently Ahead has announced that their new Nero Burning ROM 6 software will be available on July 18th via their website while Nero 6 will be available at major retailers on August 18th. Since Ahead has built up a very good reputation with their Nero 5.5 software their new Nero 6 software is highly anticipated.

CoverDesigner icon Today we have the privilege to show you a preview of this new Nero 6 software. Thanks to Ahead we received a copy of the new Nero Burning ROM 6.0.0.6 software and we can show you what you can expect from this new version. Nero itself is of course not the only software we're going to take a peek at. The package also includes the new InCD 4 software, NeroVision Express 2 software and some more goodies. Read on to see what Nero 6 has planned for you!

Please note that in this preview the terms 'Nero 6' and 'Nero Burning ROM 6' are both mentioned. Nero 6 is the official name of the new software package while the Nero Burning ROM software is part of the Nero 6 suite. The retail package will thus be available under the Nero 6 name.

Thanks for the sneak preview.
How come you didn't (get to) preview NeroMix? Seems only to be available in the U.S. (Ultra edition) for some reason.
sorry,

interesting preview and yes Nero 6 looks nice but frankly I dont find it nice enough to shell out 59.00-79.00 particularly since I have yet to see a version of InCD 4 that works properly.
Thanks for the excellent review. Great job as always!

I just hope this won't be as bloated and as buggy as Easy Coaster Creator :r.

And I see no mention of support for the excellent Ogg Vorbis and FLAC audio formats. But they still support this crappy WMA :r.
My opinion is for the 59-79 I would expect a program that can copy any protection like CloneCD or CDmate does and a DVD movie copier like DVDXCopy or CloneDVD all in one package.

(Hint, Hint, Elby come out with a package software that is 1 app that does it all).

Later all

Is Nero 6 going to be limited to the Joliet file format which only supports up to 64 characters for file names? Or will it support the ability to create files with file names larger than 64 characters?

cya
One more thing: I agree that the price is high... but that's not a problem. For that price you can buy a new cd burner with Nero 6 bundled :B

When creating a new compilation you indeed have an option called 'Relax Joliet restrictions' under which an option is available that says 'allow more than 64 characters for Joliet names'.

I thought it had been reported that 'relax joliet restrictions' in 5.5 did not actually work properly - can anyone confirm this?
What about ISO-9660 version 2?
what i like to see in nero6:
- support for the romeo file format
- a possibility to save thewindow layout on exit
Well, will there be any compatibility problems if I select 'allow more than 64 characters for Joliet names'.

Also, whats the max characters I can have in a file name after selecting this option.

I have a habit of giving very long names to files & so for burning my personal data I use RecordNow Max as it allows 200+ characters in a file name.
:)
ISO-9660 v2 is supported!!!
Totally un-reliable.
Most of the time the 'BURN' option is shaded out.
Ugly old fashioned software.:o
:*
ya
Nero BackItUP in Nero 6 is garbage. it sucks. It doesn't support selected restore of what you backed up. WTF????
