Basic testing: start

Getting started:

We are now going to perform some basic testing for the duplicator:

  • We will start by performing an easy copy job.
  • We will read a master disc and duplicate it once.
  • We have repeated each test 3 times to avoid a false failure rate...

Like any other full mastering software Prassi let's you make a global image file of the disc you want as a master for the duplication job.
We read 3 times three different discs , making it a total of nine discs. All these readings went perfect.

A good extra is that you can also use other sourcedrives connected to the PC, so you are not forced to use the Sanyo drive as a reader.
Keep in mind that this feature is only for the image building and is not usable in batch processing mode wereas the image should still be made.

In that case you are restricted to the 2 Sanyo drives. However in the disc to disc copy mode you'll have access to the other sources as well.

The extension that prassi gives to the build images is *.gi

This *.gi iso-file is the recommended image to use in the duplication process. Hower when writing an image you can also use other image types. Prassi supports *.iso , *.ima , *.img and *.udi image-files.

So here we go testing again...

Result: Prassi was not able to write the popular *.ccd and *.cue files. Maybe in a future Prassi PXengine update we will find support for these images. Especially the *.ccd which is the CloneCD image format which is build up as 1 image divided in three seperate files with the extension *.img , *.sub and *.ccd.

You can see that this image controls also support for subchannel codes. As far as we can test Prassi only supports the copying of the first 16kbytes of the subchannel which inccorporates the CD-text feature. Since many copy-protections use the other free space of the whole 96 kbytes subchannel data and not the first 16kbytes the program will not support the backing up of some protected CD's. It would be handy though if we could use a copyprotection in our production. This would prevent your own products from being copied by others. So people who require smaller quantities could also have some sort of protection against piracy.

    Conclusion:

Prassi does it's job as imagebuilder superb. There were no noticeble failures and the image-building was extremely fast, though secure... Maybe the addition for support of more image formats would be welcome, but is not a prior change....

so i take it that you can not copy safe disk 1 or 2 discs with this product........When will we see a product that can do something like that......That would be awsome.
