The CDRW Drives
Primera has chosen for one of the top manufacturers in the industry and that is Sanyo. Sanyo has been the number one Optical drive supplier for many years, thus resulting in reliable and stable performance. It has been OEM supplier of parts and drives for Plextor, TDK, Waitec and many others.
The drive Primera has integrated is the CRD-BP4.
This is a SCSI-drive with the following specs:
Now since we noticed that the CRD-BP4 supports Burn-Proof we definately wanted to know how this feature works in a duplicator with two or more drives.
So we called again Primera and came up with the folowing questions and answers:
Does the Composer Pro equipped with two Sanyo CRD-BP4 burners uses the Burn-Proof function, or is this disabled during the burning ?
ComposerPro's drive comes with the Burn-Proof function, however the software defaults the Burn-Proof to the "off" setting. You can easily switch the Burn-Proof to the "on" setting from within PrimoCD Pro
If so, what will be the effect on the actual burning ? Will it affect the duplicating process ?
When Burn-Proof is turned on, the burning process could slow down if the information cannot be supplied to the drive fast enough.
Why did Primera choose for Sanyo ?
Sanyo's drives are known throughout the industry for reliability, quality control, aggressive product development and introduction. We have had an exceptionally low defect rate with Sanyo drives
Why do duplicator manufacturors still choose for SCSI drives above IDE drives with BurnProof ?
SCSI drives are becoming harder and harder to find, especially at 24x and higher burn speeds. Because our customers are asking for the fastest recording times possible, we found that ATAPI drives are easier for us to source and for them to later upgrade as drive speeds keep getting faster.
The FireWire interface also adds some nice extra features not available with SCSI, such as hot-swapping without having to re-boot the PC and longer cable lengths"
Is the Primera Composer Pro upgradable to a 24x writer ?
The SCSI ComposerPro is not upgradeable to 24x drives. To accommodate the 24x burn speed, we had to change all of our duplicators to a FireWire interface.
Conclusion:
Primera has chosen a very good combination by introducing these writers in their duplicators. We have been using Sanyo writers for three years now in other systems (not Primera based) and it is a real pleasure to work with. They have a very low failure rate and reliable burning.
They are excellent for multi burning (burning the same image with more than one burner at the same time). Again this is the proof that Primera has top-knowledge on this market...
