The software Primera uses for this Composer Pro is a special version of Prassi's Primo CD. Prassi has been on the recording market for quite some time now and has really prooved itself of having a very stable writing engine for multiple burners.
With this software-engine Prassi is capable of handling 64 CD-burners in one time. However, that you can really use 64 drives depents on the version of Prassi's software that you are using.
The reason that Prassi is not so well known as some other big contenders nowadays is the fact that Prassi was involved in a legal infringment with Adaptec a few years ago.
As for me I liked Prassi a lot in those days, because it was one of those few program's that could handle more than one drive. The program-structure was very clear and had an easy graphical user interface. The last year I didn't use Prassi anymore, though I had been supplied with a version from Prassi Europe.
A quick view on their website shows that they are still very active on the professional market and that Prassi Europe recently has been acquired by Veritas software Company. This review gave me a chance to see what has been changed and what new things were implemented in the software...
When we start Prassi PrimoCD Pro we see the following logo:
The actual main-screen that pops up looks very familiar to me as it hasn't changed that much in looks...
On the Top-left we can see 3 drives. Apparantly Primera isn't selfish and pops up even the Plextor that is in my computer, but which is not part of the duplicator...
The special Prassi version supplied with the duplicator even gave access to my Plextor, which is part of the computer the duplicator is attached to.
To two drives integrated into the duplicator unit are the next two drives in the Top-left list. When we rightclick these drives we can ask their properties:
The drives supplied with the duplicator are showed here. We can see their scsi-ID , drive-letter and firmware version.
Again time to ask Primera two questions:
Is it necessarily that both drives of the duplicator are the same, and that they have the same firmware-release ?
It is recommended that both drives be of the same model and firmware version. This is a choice within the PrimoCD Pro software program (found in Tools/Options/Advanced). The program default is to require the same model and same firmware version, and this is the recommended setting. You have two other choices: Drives must be the same model or mix any drive.
Can we always upgrade the drive's firmware to the latest version ?
Yes, you are able to upgrade the drives firmware to the latest version if needed. The drive manufacturer will have these updates. For Sanyo, the updates can be found at http://www.burnproof.com
