DVD-R media compatibility and write quality
As with the +R media, for these tests we will be using either a Lite-On DVDRW LH-20A1H or the Lite-On SHM-165H6S drives along with Kprobe2 to measure the disc quality. We will also be using the BenQ DW1650 or the Optiarc AD7170A along with Nero CD-DVD Speed for our read-back tests.
Here is what we discovered:

The Sony DRU-840A burned this 16X rated media at 18X with very good results.

This media did not fare as well as we had hoped; but then again it was written at 20X speed.

The high levels of PIE and PIF coupled with the drop in reading at the end of the TRT suggest that the Sony DRU-840A has problems with this media in regards to quality burns.

Higher PIF than we would have like to seen; but the Sony DRU-840A did do a good job with this media.

Despite the smooth TRT, the higher levels of PIE towards the end of the disc might suggest problems with the media quality.

The Sony DRU-840A wrote this media with very good quality.

The Sony DRU-840A wrote this media with high PIE and PIF at the start but overall a good burn.
DVD-RW media compatibility and write quality
We used the same test procedures as in our DVD-R tests.
Here are our results.

The Sony DRU-840A burned this media with good results.
Summary
Overall, the Sony DRU-840A did a good job with our DVD-R/RW test media; we would have like to have seen lower PIE/PIF values on our dash media.
Let’s head on to the next page where we will test DVD R DL writing performance and quality……

Great device
works just like you said

There seems to be no firmware update out yet. Hope thats rectified soon.

Thanks for the effort.

I have it set to burn dvd's at 16x and like i said it does that half way through and same with 12x.The good part is that it has always burned the dvd and never made any coasters(Yet). But the bad part is the end result is always a burn that is going at either 5x speed or 10x speed.Thats what the result in Ashampoo burning studio says(cd burned succesfully at 5 or 10x)
So I'm just wondering if anyone knows what exactly is up with that and why it does it.Any suggestions and help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
