DVD-R media compatibility and write quality:
In these tests we will be using a Lite-On SHM-165P6S drive along with K-Probe to measure the disc quality. We will also be using the NEC ND-4570A or BenQ DW1655 along with Nero CD-DVD Speed for our read-back tests.





The Sony DRX-S70U burned this test media with excellent results, PIF total of a mere 554 and a very good jitter average of 7.26%.





Overall the DRX-S70U burned this test media with very good results and a low jitter average.





The Sony DRX-S70U does every good with this FujiFilm media with very low PIF errors.





The DRX-S70U had no problems with this Verbatim LightScribe media; Very good overall results with low errors and excellent jitter average.





Well no real surprises here; the Sony DRX-S70U does excellent with this 8X TY media.
DVD-RW media compatibility and write quality:
For this test we used the same testing procedures as in our DVD-R tests.





This Verbatim media produced a good quality burn.
Summary:
The Sony DRX-S70U has written to our DVD-R/RW test media with very good results and some really nice low PIF totals on 3 of our DVD-R discs.

I think it would require the power cable for writing but maybe not for reading.
The power is 5V, so USB might be sufficient.
