Conclusion

Positives And Negatives:

While using this program a number of points both positive and negative came up. These are listed below for easy reference.

Positive:

  • Very Simple To Use
  • Very High Quality Output
  • DVD menuGood support
  • Supports multiple audio streams and subtitles

Negative:

  • Problems with QuickTime files - no audio

Conclusion:

ConvertXToDVD is a very easy to use program, which supports many different file types and the VSO staff usually fixes little bugs very fast.  Even while performing tests on this software, VSO released 4 or 5 more updated versions of the software with small bug fixes or features being added.

Looking back at the original statement by VSO Software:

ConvertXToDVD is a software to convert and burn your videos to DVD. With ConvertXToDVD and in a few clicks you can backup your movies to DVD playable on any home DVD player.

ConvertXToDVD supports most popular format such XviD, MOV, VOB, Mpeg, Mpeg4, MP4, AVI, WMV, DV and stream formats. It converts your files into a compliant DVD Video set of files and burns it on a DVD media.

The aspect ratio can be automatically selected or forced to a specific format. The program works for NTSC and PAL video formats and creates chapters automatically. Multiple audio tracks are supported. Version 2 uses a completely rewritten interface with subtitles support and a lot of new settings.

Generally, we can agree with the above statement, the program works well, supports a lot of different formats and the output is of very high quality. Apart from a few little problems with idx/sub subtitle streams (which are may caused by subtitle files itself) is the support for multiple subtitle and audio streams also a nice improvement over previous versions of this program.

Like almost every other software there, ConvertXtoDVD leaves room for some improvement, as we have found that converted QickTime files came out without audio. We also have contacted VSO Support regarding this issue and here is what they had to say:

This problem is on the top of our 'to do" list.  At this moment, QuickTime files usually work if they have an aac audio track. Anyway, this will be fixed as soon as possible.

Final Word:

Because of the ease of use of this program, along with the simplicity of it as a whole, we rate this program very highly. Many users are not seasoned professionals and so this allows people to create stand alone playable DVD's with ease.

The quality of the output files, regardless of the format chosen were of high quality and we can recommend this program to everyone who wants to convert his DivX, XviD or other video file for watching it via a standalone DVD player on his TV.

For us, this program deserves the CDFreaks Editors Choice award, even with the few bugs which the program may have.
