Program Run Through: VSO Image Resizer

Here we can see the first screen on VSO Image Resizer. When you first open the program you will get the main screen up along with a secondary window asking you to input some image files for it to work on.

You can add as many files as you want to the program. The only consideration is that the larger the amount the more time they will take to process if you plan to make a lot of changes to thinks like the resolution, format, quality etc.

Because this was the first time using the program the program wanted to know if it could find a newer version of itself. There wasn’t one available at this point in time.

As we can see here I have added 25 images to the program. There is a less and more button that you can click to give you a few more options.

Once pressed you get additional things such as Filtering, Format, Quality, Aspect Ratio, Watermark and File naming. The Aspect Ratio box will keep you photos looking good. If they can’t meet the Resolution requirements then they will automatically become that little large either in height or width to make sure that you don’t turn into a tall skinny person or short fat person. This of course can be overridden but unticking the box. The one thing I would have liked here to set a desired size say in width and for the program to pick the needed height size while still keeping the aspect ration. At present it doesn’t quite do it.

By clicking on the Watermark button you can specify a logo to be used along with all of the other options that go along with it.

The File naming option is perhaps on of the best I have seen for a while. If like me you take few pictures on your digital camera then put them onto your computer and then take some more you gets lots of pictures with the same file name. Generally PIC0001 or something similar. Instead of having to sit there and rename them all by hand you can put them into this program and let it do it for you.

Once you are happy with the settings of the program including to make copies and store then in a different place, just in case, clicking the Ok button will start the program off. You can see more details by clicking the Details button to see what is happening if you are interested.

A small summary will come up once done. Here we can see that 25 images were processed in just under 20 seconds. This was a simple test where the original aspect was kept but the format was changed to jpg with 80% quality.

Clicking on the details button shows you what the program did.

The last feature of this program is the it integrates itself into the Windows Explorer Shell. This means that you can select pictures that you have in there directories and then launch the program via the right click button.

That’s it for this little application.

Now lets draw some Conclusions on these two programs.....
