Interface/ Usability:

The Jammin has a simple LCD screen that will not give you detailed information about the song you are playing, it only displays the current song number, the minutes and seconds it is playing, the mode (CDDA, MP3) and an indication of the battery status. It's not hard to use the Jammin if you are used to work with computers I guess, but the interface is clearly something that makes this device cheap. But overall it's easy to learn and does it job.



And after all, all you have to do when you want to play a CD or MP3 CD is put it in and press the play button. The device has also a hold switch, when switched on, it will ignore all your button presses, very handy when you have it in your pocket and accidentally press the stop button. If you have switched on the hold button, it will ignore the button press and will not stop playing.

Navigation:

One thing you are used to when you are playing MP3 files on your computer is that you can select the songs just by artist and title, that's even better then with audio CD's where you have to select the number from the tracklisting on the cover. On a MP3 player you will also like to know what song you are playing and more expensive players will have a display that shows the filename or even ID3 information tags. About the Jammin we can be very clear, as said before, it only shows the track number and how long it is playing, so no flashy display for that.

To search the song you want you can have the Jamming scanning both file names and directories to search faster. And although the manual says it is only possible when playing CDDA songs you can hold down the next and previous button to move back and forward in the current playing track.

Capacity/Media:

The Waitec Jammin is able to play both 8 cm CD-R's and 12 cm CD-R's. Supported media is MP3 and CDDA witch is nothing more and less then the normal audio CD format. It will play Mixed-Mode CD's, but audio CD's protected with e.g. Key2Audio will not play. This is not the fault of Waitec, this is just another proof of the that audio CD protections are useless and bad for consumers. You won't find any problems playing CD-R's or pre pressed CD's.Â
