DVD Shrink is software to backup DVD disks. You can use this software in conjunction with DVD burning software of your choice, to make a backup copy of any DVD video disk. DVD Shrink does not burn DVDs! The output from DVD Shrink is saved as files on your hard drive, which you can then burn to a DVD-R using separate burning software, such as the software provided with your DVD-R drive.

Free is the good thing, movie quality is not..If you are looking for quality u better stick with DVD2One
Like any newly released piece of software there is room for growth. DVDShrink's initial release shows a lot of promise. With release 1.03 DVDShrink has managed too close the gap with DVD2one and IC7 in terms of quality.

It has one of cleanest, professional interfaces I've seen in a dvd back-up program. The helpfile is one of the most comprehensive, and it is shockfull of features that I wish DVD2one and IC7 had.

I am certain upon the third release DVDShrink will have equal if not better quality then DVD2one and IC7, which will then put it in the forefront as the need to have dvd back-up program.

The latest Beta 5 is excellent! When used with NERO it's a great combination. I had been using DVD X Copy Xpress, but they get worse and worse with each new upgrade.:g
I am new to this backing up of my DVD and have tried lots of different Programs, tried DVD Shrink as a last bid and this program has a rating of 9.75 out of 10, easy to use and never a bad back up yet. Love it;);););)
Brilliant piece of software and easy to use :)
I only use this program, why pay for something when this does it for free. The only thing I don't like about it is , the latest version 3.17.6 says you can use Nero 5 or 6 to automaticly burn making this a 1 click wonder but Nero 5.5 doesn't work.

Dave
Its the best software out there:X
I am only very new to this forum so if I say anything wrong please let me know. I have been using this in conjunction with DVD Decrypter (when Necessary) with only two failures in over 500 useages. Dave The final upgrade to Nero 5 will allow the same one click operation that Nero 6 does.
I've use DVDShrink for a year now it GREAT with Nero i do keep both updated to the latest version. 2 thumbs up
I have been using DVD Shrink and DVD Dycrypter for about 18 months with no problems: Their Great Freeware! I also burn with Nero 6 which makes the whole operation (after editing) one click.
Me like tha shit or is it love IT :p
I shrinks really well, pity I cant follow it up with burning:p:*
What version is this and what is different?

I have 3.2.0.15

I thought the development was stoped or was this open source?
I'm new to this, but I have been using DVD shrink for the last 6 months and I didn't know that it doesn't have it's own burn software as I click back up and once it's done backing up it asks me to insert a blank disc. :)
I dont understand what is going on. This page says this software is updated.

Yet the developer abandoned this software last year and the last update was to 3.2.0.14 last year in July.

There is no-where on this page which says what version this is no does it list changes.

What am i missing?
Correct me if I'm worng, but did't the guy that made DVD Shrink go to work for Ahead Nero and make Nero Recode 2 ?
@Drayton u are describing DvDdecrypter, this program is apparently different.:g
I love dvd shrink its free and effective, sometimes i use it with dvd decrypter or dvd43 in the background and always burn with nero
:+
Hi, i have been ussing DVD shrink now fopr the past 12 months and untill yesterday I thought it was Bees Knees, then after burning some 60 DVDs I receive this message,Does not have a valid CSS key, what is a CSS keyand were does one find it.
Have recommended DVD shrink to at least 20 people, and they think it is great
:d
I used DVDShrink to Copy a Movie for the first time last night, and it worked like a charm! :) FYI, I used my Desktop, a P4-2.8, with a Micromess Windows 98V2 Plug in Hard Drive, Twin Emprex 16xDVD-Burners as Source and Target, and it all worked without a Hitch!! :g Thanks so much for sharing this Wonderful Software Package on the Net, RubyRed :* , who Rated it at Five!!!
Download link should work again
Even though DVDShrink will never be updated again,I still consider it to be the best for DVD transcoding and its FREE.

It wont remove newer copy protections so if you use AnyDVD in the background or alternatively some freeware eg RipIt4Me or DVDFab Decrypter to rip the DVD contents to the HDD first then use Shrink all will work perfectly. :)
There are now two "versions" of DVD Shrink 3.2. (3.2.0.15) One that will give you the option to burn automatically with the freeware program ImgBurn instead of DVD Decrypter, and the other is a CSS free (without any decrypt part). The later one is for countries where the original DVDShrink wound't be legal to use. Just search for any of these two. :)
HI wendyd here ihave been checking out cd freaks for a few months & found a guide from Domin8tor with credits to michigan called dvd shrink with dvd decrypter 7 it worked absolutely fantastic 7 so easy. Ihave been trying to copy my dvd's ¬ getting anywhere except peed off & Ijust burn't my first dvd . THANKYOU. By the way CD FREAKS is so ADDICTIVE. SO MUCH KNOWLEDGE IN ONE PLACE. :)
I've downloaded a movie online and it is 700 mb .. what program can i use to make it fit in a DVD+R and play it in a DVD player ..?
J.ROx use ConvertXToDVD
I found that using DVD Shrink wasnt a good idea .... My advice would be to by NeroVision Express with nero recode. Nero will recode your DVD's with fantastic quality.
I have been using DVD Shrink a while now and all of a sudden I am having problems with it saying it is going to take hours to do what it was doing in minutes. Any help would be appreciated.
I have used DVD Shrink for a very long time & found it a fabulous program, now when it has finished & I put the disc in to rip it there is always an error message & I can't burn the file to a DVD. What has happened? Has Nero now done something to prevent burning after copying?? :c
dvd shrink IS NOT FREE. if you can point me to an actual free program, please do. thanks
de max :X :S
are there any drivers available for use with vista.i have used dvd shrink for 2 years with out prolems with windows xp now i am told that dvd shrink willnot work with vista
Mate works fine, with Vista. shrunk many a disk with no problems so far. What i have found is that most things work with Vista and if not try to use the compatability tab, that usually does the trick . Don't just listen to others. try it on vista for yourself.
what will burn or convert google video's (gvi) or (3gp) phone video, to avi so I could make dvd,s
I'm so happy :p
i am getting a DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue
Invalid DVD navigation structure

its on a newer movie has something changed.

I To SunshineOz: Have used DVD shrink now on all my collection (I Have about 2800 DVD collection) When it gives you trouble like you described then uninst Nero and reinstall. This fixes the problem for me everytime. Also remember to enable DMA on tour system.Another tip: I backup DVD first onto Hard Drive with DVD Fab Decrypter and the burn with DVD Shrink. Does wonders to the quality. Takes a bit longer but quality is the name of the game.
DVD Shrink IS FREE.

There's something odd about the download above. :(
i am using DVD SHRINK for years and it is still the best, there is nothing comparable available. all other (shrink) programs work quick and dirty. shrink with deep analysis and qual. enhancement takes some time but results in the best quality possible. still works perfect on my new vista dual core machine. but pay attention, dvdfab had some troubles with structure, works again with 4.0.1.4 Beta (Nov 24, 2007) and above (Fix: DVD Shrink "Out of memory" error when copying DVD in certain cases)
shrink rulez
The link above downloaded an executable that does not install DVDshrink and now I can't delete it!!! Virus scan shows nothing but it can not be deleted!
:(
yes it can be deleted...(if you unistall it correctly)...but who cares this software is the best and I wouldn't want it deleted from my cumputer anyway... :g
Excellent little program, every movie I back up works!
DVD Shrink is a great tool to use and use it along side DVD Fab. I have used it for 5 years and I love it. I use DVD FAB 4.8 to rip and compress the movie (takes 30 minutes) which brings original movie to about 4.2 GB. Then I open DVD Shrink and open the image that I just compressed with DVD Fab and compress it a second time but this time I remove all of the languange options except English 5.1 and then proceed. This can take about another GB off and saves space on my external hard drive. The result id it goes from a standard dual layered professional videos (approx 7.5 GB each) and after all of the compression ends up being about 3 to 3.5 GB per movie. I end up burning the file with best image file burner known to man; ImageBurn! Thanks Lightening UK ;)
Thanks for all the above info, particularly the last post!
I use DVD Decrypter when DVD Fab Platinum doesn't work. If it doesn't work in DVD Decrypter, in my experience, I just need to clean the original disk and it works, except for some DVDs from England.
All newbies READ THIS !

Best Decrypter to decrypt any movie to your Hard Disk = DVDFab Platinum (at this time I use version 5.0.35 beta)
Best Shrinker to shrink a DVD9 movie and make it fit on a regular DVD5 disk (a 4.7 Gb or 4.36 Gb real)= DVD Shrink (last known version is 3.2.0.15)
Best DVD writing tool to write an .ISO image made by DVD Shrink = ImgBurn (at this time version 2.4.1.0)
Best writing tool for general purpose CD, DVD and BRD = Nero (everybody loves it, actual version 8.3.2.1)

So everybody go get these tools and go ripping (shrinking) your movie colection ! Please read first the manuals and/or help files of each program you use, and don't ask foolish questions !

P.S. Nero Recode sucks, DVD Shrink is The Best !!!
Yeah, it shrinks the files down nicely, it also burns the disc, but why can't I change my file from PAL to NTSC before I burn it? I've looked around on preferences, etc, and you can change the regional code just fine, but what good is that gonna do when you can't change it from PAL to NTSC?? Is there something I'm missing here??? HELLLPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS: as you can guess, I'm rather new to this ripping shite, so please....be gentle....
